it's always good when you hold opinions in the sports world that Sun-Times/ESPN "contributor" Jay Mariotti disagrees with - nothing is more validating;

to wit: Mariotti in totally obvious fashion has to weigh in on Illinois' fantastic upset of Ohio State yesterday with the same old tired BCS/no playoff moaning; what the esteemed Mariotti doesn't realize is that if there was a playoff in college football YESTERDAY'S GAME WOULD HAVE MEANT NOTHING!! - for Ohio State would still be cruising to a playoff spot and Illinois would still have no chance of earning a spot in this all-mystical playoff system that supposedly can also cure world hunger - instead thanks to the current system we have, the game turned into a cataclysmic upset that will be spoken about in Illinois circles for years

if there was a playoff in college football I'm sure Maroitti wouldn't even have written a column about the Ohio State game and would have instead water-boarded the good people of Chicago with his 345 Trade for Kobe column in a row - that is reason enough to be thankful a playoff doesn't exist
